Chhattisgarh road mishap: Bodies of 8 Odia labourers brought back home to Ganjam

Berhampur: A day after eight Odia labourers were killed in a tragic road accident in Chhattisgarh, their bodies were brought back to their respective native villages in Ganjam district Sunday.

The deceased labourers were identified to be Narayan Guru (26) of Chancharapali and Sushant Swain (36) of Baghuapalli both under Belguntha block, Samir Mahakud (17) of Sundarpur village under Chhatrapur block, Judhistir Nayak (24) of Kandivali under Aska block, Biswanath Gouda (54) of Ghatakuri under Aska block, Kailash Pradhan (36) of Badiambi under Hinjilikatu block, Tapan Kumar Nayak (20) and Bilu Dakua (45) of Bibhutia under Sorada block.

According to police sources, 67 labourers from Ganjam district had left for Surat in a private bus named Sivansh (NL-03 B-0987) last Friday. On the way, the bus carrying ill-fated labourers collided head-on with a speeding truck at Cheri Khedi near Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

Notably, five other injured labourers are undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Raipur.

They are known to be Chitra Swain (22) of Belguntha block, Sanyasi Jadav (42) and Babu Nayak (9) both of Athagarh village under Kabisuryanagar block, Bulu Swain (33) of Dhabalapur village under Seragada block and Tukuna Jena (30) of Kharaputi village under Belguntha block.
