Bhubaneswar: Inching a step forward to keep its poll promise of ‘pucca houses for all’, the state government has decided to construct 8,06,329 houses under various rural housing schemes during 2020-21.
Out of the total number of projected housing units, 3,57,408 are under different stages of completion and the process for the balance cases including the cases of 57,257 landless families have been expedited during a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy here, Wednesday.
The government has constructed 26,18,497 houses since 2014-15 fiscal. The government is now targeting to convert kucha houses of poor families in rural area to pucca houses by 2022.
Reviewing the progress made so far, Tripathy directed the officials concerned to make the approach towards rural housing more people-centric by leveraging the existing norms. He ordered for providing homestead land to all landless families since they are actually poorest of the poor.
The Revenue & Disaster Management, Forest & Environment and Panchyati Raj & Drinking Water departments were advised to come up with proposals for amendments, if necessary, for ensuring pucca houses to all poor families.
Director Special Projects, Rajesh Pravakar Patil said there are 57,257 families in the waiting list for allotment of houses. In the meanwhile, 8,069 homeless families have been allotted homestead land for construction of houses.
“An online system has been developed for mapping and monitoring of revenue village wise landless households. The system captures the details of the landless like their eligibility, nativity, classification of the land which they have encroached, status of house-site distribution etc,” Patil said.
