Bhadrak: A minor Scheduled Tribe girl being employed as a child labourer at a retired police officer’s house was rescued Sunday.
After rescuing the eight-year-old girl, Bhadrak child helpline handed over the girl before the child welfare committee before rehabilitating her at Asiana Open Shelter Home.
As per the information shared by the child helpline, the employer was a retired additional superintendent of police residing at Chhatabar under Bhandaripokhari block. He had employed the minor girl at his residence.
Acting on a tip-off, the child line carried out a raid on the officer’s residence and rescued the girl.
Sources said, the Chairman, Child Welfare Committee, Mr.Sudarshan Barik has sent for the girl’s family members. Once they reach, the future course of action with regard to the rescued girl will be decided.
The incident has been the talk of the town here since then. People have shown their resentment saying that the incident suggests the carelessness and lack of responsibility towards the society on the part of a retired police officer. “If policemen start to break laws then to whom we will go seeking justice,” they asked.
Meanwhile, the officer is pulling a lot of strings to suppress the case, it was learnt.
