Child marriage bid foiled in Balasore district

Khaira: Childline officials Saturday foiled a child marriage bid at Badakhuri village under Soro police limits in Balasore district. A case in this regard has been registered at Soro police station.

According to sources, parents of the minor girl decided to marry her off to the groom of her elder sister after the latter allegedly eloped with another boy a few days before her wedding.

The elder daughter was to marry a boy from Meghamadhab village under Soro police limits in Balasore district. The family members had already made preparations for the wedding ceremony, a villager said.

After their elder daughter eloped, the family was shocked. Subsequently, they consulted with the groom’s family and decided to get their youngest daughter married, the Badakhuri villager added.

Childline officials got reliable information about the marriage. Acting on the tip-off, a team of Khaira Childline officials led by Swayamprabha Dalai and Panchanan Tripathy immediately rushed to the minor girl’s house at Badakhuri village and stopped the wedding.
