Child Marriage: Woman ties knot in place of daughter

Jaipur: In a bizarre incident, a woman tied knot with her would be son-in-law, after police officials conducted a sudden raid while she was marrying off her 16-year-old minor daughter.

To escape police arrest, the woman sent away her minor daughter to hide and tied the knot herself. The incident has been reported from Dungari village in Jaipur district of Rajasthan.

According to the sources, family members of a 16-year-old minor girl had arranged her marriage with a 20-year-old youth of the locality. All arrangements had been made and guests were present in the venue.

However, acting on a tip-off, a team of child line officials along with police conducted a sudden raid in the village. Her coming to know of the raid, the girl’s mother sent away the daughter to hide and sat in the marriage mandap to avoid police arrest.

The raid team searched for the minor bride, but in vain. Later, under suspect, the team arrested the woman and her family members after which the matter came to the fore.

The team then warned them of dire consequences as per law and sent them home after a written assurance was drafted that they would get the girl married only after she turned 18 years of age.
