Bhubaneswar, June 2: Khurda child welfare committee (CWC) has recently directed the block education officers (BEOs) to immediately implement the guidelines issued by the Women and Child Development department for prevention of child sexual abuse in educational institutions.
The CWC in its August 23, 2014 order (no. 13626/WCD) had issued several guidelines like segregation of toilets for girl students, and provision of adequate lighting and security measures in the vacant areas of the schools.
The committee has asked the BEOs to ensure that all the staff, guardians and children are aware of the child protection protocols of their respective educational institutions.
It also directed the BEOs to ask the schools and crèches for regular and independent assessments of the institutions’ physical premises vis-à-vis the safety of the girl students.
The BEOs have been instructed to order the institutions to verify the social and familial background of the staff and other service providers before engaging them.
