Jharigaon: With one more death reported due to a cholera outbreak at Cheptiamba village under this block in Nabarangpur district, the death toll Monday reached three while the number of affected people was 29. The deceased was identified as Madhu Jani, the younger son of Dala Jani of the village. According to reports, Dala was the first to suffer from diarrhoea and was taken to Dabugaon Medical and later shifted to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition last Friday. She was accompanied by her elder son Neel and younger son Madhu Jani to the hospital. Dala required a blood transfusion during her treatment, and Madhu came forward to donate blood Sunday.
However, soon after, Madhu also fell ill, suffering from diarrhoea. He was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition and died Monday. He was administered saline Sunday, but no medical staff turned up to check his condition, which, according to his elder brother, resulted in his death. While returning from Nabarangpur, Neel also suffered from diarrhoea and collapsed under a tree. Upon receiving the news, an ambulance reached the spot and took Neel to a temporary health camp in Cheptiamba, where he was undergoing treatment till the filing of this report. Similarly, 65-year-old Mungai Jani of the village was taken to the Jharigaon Community Health Centre for treatment Monday morning after suffering from the disease.

Mungai’s elder son Ramadhar and another woman, Sanamati Jani, were also taken to Cheptiamba’s temporary camp for primary treatment and later shifted to Jharigaon CHC. Meanwhile, a group of health officers, including Dr. Aravind Panda, Dr. Santosh Kumar Pradhan, epidemiologist Dr. Irsad Khan, microbiologist Gayatri Sundar Ray, Dr. Aruna Gain, Dr. Jitendra Nayak, BPMO Priyanka Seal, and PHO Gopalkrushna Padhi, were present at the village and monitoring the situation. MP Balabhadra Majhi, former MP Ramesh Chandra Majhi, and Panchayat Samiti Chairman Durgaprasad Majhi Monday visited the village and discussed the condition of the cholera-affected patients with the medical team.
