Bhubaneswar, Feb 18: A seminar on Odissi music was held at Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra (GKCM) Research Centre under the Odissi Sangeet Ustav program, Thursday wherein many exponents pitched for classical tag to Odissi music.
The seminar was organised by GKCM Research Centre and Odia Language, Literature and Culture department. The seminar was inaugurated by Odia Language, Literature and Culture Minister Jyoti Prakash Pamigrahi and GKCM research centre CEO Sangita Gosain. The theme of the seminar was what more steps can be taken by the state government to give Odissi music the classical tag which it deserves. Eminent personalities like Pt. Damodar Hota, Pt. Gopal Chandra Panda, Shyamamani Devi, Guru Ramhari Das, Guru Dhaneswar Swain, Kirtan Narayan Padhi, Pt. Harmohan Khuntia and Guru Ramarao Patra participated and offered their valuable suggestions.
In the evening, Odissi songs were presented by Guru Keshab Chandra Rout, followed by Archana Jena, Himanshu Sekhar Swain while Arup Das joined them in mardal. The program was hosted by Guru Sachidananda Das, Guru Swapneswar Chakravarty and Lina Nanda.
