Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police arrested two persons Monday for allegedly uploading audio clips criticising the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for COVID-19 mismanagement. The audio clips were uploaded on social media platforms.
Allegedly, the audio clip was a conversation between two persons who were discussing COVID-19 mismanagement. The audio clip was circulated all over Odisha and was also telecast by a regional news channel.
The two arrested persons have been identified as Biswajit Mohanty (47) and Laxmikanta Behera (46), both residents of Mancheswar area in Bhubaneswar.
“The preliminary investigation suggested that the audio recording has been prepared, circulated, edited, uploaded and propagated, with mala fide and mischievous intention as the clip contains misleading and false information about COVID pandemic,” said a statement issued by Bhubaneswar Additional DCP Anup Kumar. He also stated that the accused duo was trying to mislead the residents of Bhubaneswar through that false audio clip.
Further investigation is underway and some other persons have been summoned in this regard, said a senior police official.
