City cops registered 42 abductions in April

Bhubaneswar: A total of 42 kidnapping cases were reported at different police stations in the Capital city in April 2022. Officials in a press release said Tuesday that the Khandagiri police station had received maximum numbers abduction complaints in the last month which stood at seven.

Other police stations in the city where kidnapping cases were registered are Bharatpur and Nayapalli (five each), Airport (three) Mancheswar, Chandrasekharpur and Badagada and Capital (two each) Kharavela Nagar, Shahid Nagar, Chandaka, Infocity, Laxmi Sagar and Shri Lingaraj (one each).

Meanwhile, acting upon complaints, the City police managed to rescue 65 victims in April. Out of the 65 traced, 12 were abducted in April only. The remaining 53 were kidnapped before April.

Khandagiri police rescued nine missing persons while Balianta and Mancheswar police rescued eight and seven victims respectively during the above period. Saheed Nagar, Balipatna, Nayapalli, Chandrasekharpur, Badagada and Jatni police rescued four victims each during April.

Police officials in Bhubaneswar UPD closed 44 cases after completion of investigation into the allegations of kidnapping last month.

On the other hand, the ‘Kidnapping and Man Missing Cell’ launched last year has played a major role in the rescue of 407 kidnapped victims in 394 cases from May 2021 till the end of April this year.

Notably, a total of 28 kidnapping were reported at City police stations in February which rose to 42 in April. As many as 258 kidnapping cases were registered at different police stations during 2021.
