Dhenkanal: Rs 13,000 crore will be put in for revival of the Talcher fertilizer plant in Angul district while Rajdhani Express will make its halt in Dhenkanal railway station.
This was stated here by Union petroleum and natural gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan while briefing media on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Talcher September 22 for laying the foundation stone for the revival of the defunct plant.
He also said that the city gas scheme will be rolled out in 13 districts including Dhenkanal where piped cooking gas will be supplied to households.
Pradhan said the Talcher fertliser plant was the biggest project in undivided Dhenkanal district in 70s which was later closed down due to lack of modern technology and financial scarcity.
The project will, however, be revived by using the state-of-the-art technology where gas will be produced from coal and urea fertilizers from gas at an investment of Rs 13,000 crore.
The Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) has been entrusted with the task of revival which has since received the sanction of both the Centre and the state government. The work will start the same day after the Prime Minister lays its foundation stone.
He said the PM’s meeting has been named Vikash Samavesh as the former has always said that the growth of the whole country is not possible unless the eastern region achieves development.
He said the cooking gas supply scheme which is known as city gas network in urban areas will be implemented in Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and seven other districts through gas supplied from Dhamra. GA company has been assigned the task for Dhenkanal and Angul districts. The tender process has been completed and work will start in Dhenkanal district in October.
This apart, drinking water projects with the help of ONGC will be implemented in Joranda, the seat of Mahima cult, to resolve the drinking water scarcity after consultation with the state government.
Nine projects will be implemented in Joranda panchayat, four in Kaluria panchayat and Joranda Mahima Gadi at an expenditure of Rs 18-20 crore. The rural water supply and sanitation department has prepared a plan outlay for the projects. The plan includes 2.5 mld of water treatment plant, two water reservoirs and laying of pipelines for 55 km
The file for the approval of the drinking water projects is lying with the state government. He said the Rajdhani express will make its halt at Dhenkanal railway station which will soon be renovated. Among others, district BJP president Bibhuti Bhshan Pradhan attended the meet.
