Bhubaneswar: Today (June 21) is the International Day of Yoga and the world observes it appropriately. Its aim is to spread awareness about the importance and effects of yoga on the health of the people. The word ‘yoga’ is derived from Sanskrit which means to join or to unite.
Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice which its practitioners believe gives calmness, peace, confidence and courage. Yoga is practiced in various forms around the world. The theme of the International Day of Yoga 2018 is ‘Yoga for Peace.’ Orissa POST Interacted with various Yoga centres in the city to know more about their plans to celebrate this day.
The Prajapati Brahmakumari Iswariya Viswavidayalaya will organise Raj Yoga session at Biju Patnaik Park from 5 to 8 am. More than 500 students are expected to participate in the event which will be led by Sister Leena. Speaking to OP, Sister Damayanti said, “On International Yoga Day we are offering Raj Yoga which will balance our lives and cleanse our mind, body and soul. We are offering a big platform to yoga lovers at Chandrasekharpur Phase 1 where we will discuss more about yoga with live practice.”
At Sahidnagar Park, a group called IMFA Fitness Freaks will organise a Yoga camp with about 30-40 participants. A member of the group Prativa said, “It’s essential to stay fit and our group is offering free Yoga lessons to whoever is interested in participating in the camp”.
Blissful Yoga Centre will organise a Yoga camp at New Forest Park at 6.30 am where many children are expected to attend. Madhurmayee Adarsh Sikhyaniketan which has Jharpada inmates’ children, Aadruta Children’s Home, Satyabhamadevi College for Hearing Impaired and members of Blissful Yoga Centre will also participate.
