City resident held for threatening neighbor

Bhubaneswar: Laxmisagar police Monday arrested a 43-year-old man on charges of threatening a lady and her family members with a gun. The accused was identified as Ramesh Behera alias Babaji of Dolamandap Sahi in Jharpada. A pistol and five bullets were recovered from his possession, police said. About the case details, police said Ramesh and the lady – Priyanka Behera— were neighbours and frequently found over petty issues. “Around 6pm September 5, Ramesh hurled abuses at Priyanka and her family members.

Later he also threatened them with the gun,” they said, adding that the accused even physically assaulted Priyanka’s grandfather. When Priyanka’s family alerted the police, the accused fled the locality. The victim approached the Laxmisagar police which registered a case (487/24) and launched a probe. Based on inputs, a team of Laxmisagar police nabbed Ramesh near a tea stall at Jharpada market around 8.30pm Sunday. “A pistol and five live bullets were recovered from his possession. Ramesh has been booked under Sections 126(2), 296, 115(2), 109, 3(5), 351(2) and 351(3) of BNS rw Sec 25/27 Arms Act,” they said.
