Bhubaneswar: The luxury hotels in the city are all decked up for the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 and leaving no stone unturned to ensure a comfortable stay for the teams.
Swosti Premium, Sandy’s Tower, Mayfair, Trident, Hotel Hindustan International (HHI) and Fortune Sishmo are the hotels where the national as well the visiting teams would be staying.
Around 250 rooms have been booked for the players and officials of the 16 teams in the hotels.
In Swosti Premium, teams from Malaysia, France and Pakistan will be staying during the event, while in Sandy’s Tower the Belgian, Australian and Chinese teams will stay.
Swosti Premium will host the Canadian team while the teams from Argentina, England, Ireland, Netherland and Spain will be put up in Mayfair.
The teams from Germany and India will stay at the Trident, the South African team in HHI and in Fortune Sishmo the New Zealand team will be put up during the tournament.
Ranjan Prasad of Swosti Premium said that they have planned special diets for the teams which include fresh and dry fruits. “We also plan to prepare continental dishes for the foreign players for which our chief chef has a special plan,” Prasad added.
Santosh Mishra, general manager of Sandy’s Tower, said, “From November 23 to December 17, 50 rooms are booked for the players and the team staffs.” He added that the hotel has been decked up and intricately designed carpets and special lighting has been put up for the occasion. “We have tried to showcase the state’s culture with the associated paintings in the 50 rooms,” Mishra said. He informed that the hotel has arranged for a tilak ceremony for the Chinese team that will arrive Friday.
Speaking on the food for the teams, Mishra said, “Odia cuisines namely aloo poda, tomato sekka, chicken stick, aloo kobi, mutton, paneer, dalama, khichdi and rasagolla, are the delicacies that we have in mind.”
Sources said to ensure food safety in the hotels, a special team will be constituted which will include a food safety officer, dietician and one of the hotel staffs. The team from November 26 onwards will inspect the food to be served to the players and the team staff.
