Civil Supplies department faces flak

Chhatrapur: The Civil Supplies department in Ganjam is flooded with complaints from people in various parts of the district.

However, it was alleged that the department has failed to attend to a large number of the complaints filed online. According to reports, complaints have been made over the years through the department’s portal.

This has come to the notice of the Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation (OSCSC).

Biswajit Keshari Das, MD of the Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation has issued a letter to the Ganjam Collector and the District Civil Supplies officer September 28 in this regard.

He has directed the administration to take expeditious steps for disposal of such complaints. The Odisha government has laid emphasis on removing bottlenecks on public distribution system and streamlining the system in the larger interests of the people, the letter said.

According to the letter, 1,374 complaints are pending with the Civil Supplies department. Most of the complaints are related to people without ration cards and anomalies in those.

Some complaints by people state that in spite of having ration cards in their possession, they are being deprived of their quota.

In the past, the OSCSC has sent reminders through letters to the district administration and the department to reddress the pending complaints.

However, the department has failed to sort out the disputes. The district administration had received a letter in this regard July 8 from the OSCSC. At that time, 2,917 cases were pending for redressal.

The media also had carried detailed reports about the issue earlier. Various outfits alleged that the department is not doing anything little to dispose of the cases.

The Civil Supplies Minister had earlier expressed his unhappiness over pending complaints and directed for quick redressal of the cases.

In the letter, OSCSC made it clear that that the government has emphasized on expeditious disposal of cases. It has asked the administration submit report on the action taken as soon as possible, it was learnt.
