Jatni: A Class IX student of Niranjanpur under Kantia panchayat here was allegedly raped and murdered Monday. The deceased was identified as Sriyanka Behera (name changed).
According to the complaint filed by the mother of the girl with Jatni police, she spotted her daughter’s naked body hanging from the ceiling after she returned from an Anganwadi centre where she works at around 10am.
She also said that she had seen a man running out of her house. She suspected that the man of Saradhapur village in Khurda might have killed her daughter after raping her.
Sources claimed that the person, who was working as a driver at a private school, had extramarital affairs with the mother of the deceased and he used to visit them. Sources also said that the man committed the crime taking advantage of the absence of the deceased’s mother.
Police registered a case (47/19) under Section 302 of IPC and found tobacco products from the spot. However, the accused is still at large.
