Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police arrested a Class VI pass-out youth from Balasore for posing as a doctor and duping over 150 young girls of money and valuables after befriending them on social media, an official source informed Monday.
The accused has been identified as Pravash Raj (28) from Badamba area of Cuttack district. During preliminary investigation, police officials came to know that he is a Class VI pass-out.
According to police sources, Pravash identified himself as a medical student of Berhampur MKCG Medical College and Hospital and befriended young girls on social media and matrimonial websites and duped them subsequently.

“Pravash developed love affairs with more than 150 young girls and duped them of their valuables. The accused youth duped lakhs of rupees on the pretext of marriage. Subsequently, he befriended the girl victims on social media by claiming that he is a doctor by profession and the girls are not at par with his social status. Interestingly, his Facebook profile also mentions that he had studied MBBS at Berhampur MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Ganjam district,” the Saheed Nagar police official expressed.
Speaking in details on Pravash’s modus operandi the official added that after developing love affairs with girls, he used to accompany them to shopping malls and hotels. However, once the girls would enter either a trial room or washroom, Pravash would vanish with their money purse and other valuables.
Previously, Pravash was arrested by Badambadi and Jagatpur police three times on similar charges.
