Binjharpur: A Class-VIII girl of a government nodal school under this block in Jajpur district was left battling for life after she was raped by her teacher, a report said Monday.
The accused was identified as Smruti Ranjan Jena, a teacher in Madhusudan Nodal School in Sasanpada village. Police arrested him and questioned him before taking him for medical examination.
A case was registered in this connection while a police team led by Binjharpur IIC Suchitrabirya Das left for Cuttack to record the statement of the victim undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The incident has sparked shockwaves in the area as residents demanded stringent punishment for the accused. After reports surfaced, block education officer Prafulla Nayak visited the school and conducted a probe into the incident.
The incident occurred August 3 after school hours when Jena detained the 13 –year old girl on the pretext of teaching her. He raped her at a secluded place on the school premises. He threatened her of dire consequences if she discloses the matter before others. He also threatened her that he would fail her in examination.
The girl came back home but fell sick later following which her parents rushed her to the Uttangra primary health centre for treatment and later, shifted her to Binjharpur community health centre after she failed to recover.
The girl was again shifted to the district headquarters hospital and later to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after she failed to show any signs of recovery. The girl also failed to recover at Cuttack despite treatment when doctors conducted some examinations and came to know about the rape.
They informed her family members. The girl narrated her ordeal to her family members when they questioned her about the rape. On being informed by the doctors, Mangalbag police informed Jajpur SP Charan Singh Meena who directed SDPO Prasant Malla and Binjharpur IIC Suchitrabirya Das to take action against the accused.
