Clinical India claim U-19 Asia Cup title

Following seniors’ footsteps

India colts take a groufie after winning the Asia Cup final in Mirpur, Sunday

Mirpur, Oct 7: After the senior team, led by Rohit Sharma, clinched the Asia Cup title, the junior team followed their footsteps and won the U-19 Asia Cup title Sunday with a crushing 144-run win against Sri Lanka in the summit clash with Delhi boys Ayush Badoni (52 n o, 28b, 2×4, 5×6) and Harsh Tyagi (6/38) playing prominent roles.

Just a week back, the senior team beat Bangladesh in a closely fought final in Dubai to emerge as continental champions. Now, India colts, the runaway favourites, outplayed Sri Lanka in all departments by first scoring an imposing 304 for three at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium after India elected to bat.

All the Indian batsmen contributed with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (85, 113b, 8×4, 1×6) and Anuj Rawat (57, 79b, 4×4, 3×6) creating solid foundation with a 121-run stand. However the highlight of the Indian innings was Badoni’s blistering unbeaten knock. Along with skipper Prabh Simran Singh (65 n o, 37b, 3×4, 4×6), Badoni added 110 runs in 9.1 overs to literally bat Sri Lanka out of the match.

The island nation were never in the chase as they were all out for 160 in 38.4 overs losing wickets at regular intervals with left-arm spinner Tyagi being the wrecker-in-chief.

Brief Scores: India U-19 304/3 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 85, Prabh Simran 65 n o, Anuj Rawat 57, Ayush Badoni 52 n o) bt Sri Lanka U-19 160 in 38.4 overs (Harsh Tyagi 6/38) by 144 runs.
