Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a whopping amount of Rs 10 crore for a cultural centre for Odia people in Surat. The CM himself announced the amount while addressing the gathering at the Odisha Mahotsav in Surat.
Patnaik said he has written a letter to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for allocating land for the establishment of the Odia cultural centre.
“Besides, I have requested the Centre to introduce direct train between Surat and Berhampur and direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Surat,” he said.
The CM further said that steps will be taken to open a +2 college in Surat and the State Government will find out a way so that Odia students in Surat can appear in Matric examination under the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha.
Earlier, the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister and BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan tried to corner the CM over his letters to the Union government seeking services for the Odia community in Surat, while the Congress party also echoed similar sentiments, dubbing the Cm’s visit to the state as a “political move”.
