CM checks out Smart City project

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visits a site under Smart City project

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday personally took stock of a Smart City project being executed by Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL).
The Chief Minister visited the project site in Bapuji Nagar here. He was accompanied by Bhubaneswar Municipal Commissioner (BMC)-cum-Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) vice chairman and Smart City managing director Krishan Kumar and Smart City SPV CEO Vineel Krishna.
Recently, the Chief Minister had made a surprise visit to the under construction Bhubaneswar Operation Centre (BOC), a management centre, being constructed on the fifth floor of the BMC-Bhawani mall in Saheed Nagar. The centre would be the biggest among all cities across the nation.
The first of its kind centralised command control centre will monitor, operate and control services in the city. The command centre will keep an eye on all functions like traffic management, incident management, city surveillance, emergency services and disaster management among several other services. Various external modules shall also be integrated into the system to provide real time decision support. The centre’s construction is nearing completion and it will be inaugurated soon.
Notably, Bhubaneswar is the numero uno city of the state to earn the Smart City tag and has already added a proud feather to its cap by being declared as No- 1 Smart City in the country. It has also won the 2017 National Planning Excellence Awards and the Pierre L’enfant International Planning Award.
The Bhubaneswar Smart City plan redefines the concept of ‘smart cities’ and outlines a citizen-driven vision for the future by using technology to help residents gain better access to city services and improve the overall quality of life. Its goal is to engage residents in discussions to identify which groups have access to technology and city services and which groups do not, and how to close that gap.
