CM inaugurates KALIA scholarship portal

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday unveiled KALIA scholarship portal here for the children of the farmers, who are studying and aspiring for technical and professional education.

While launching the portal and logo of the scholarship scheme, Naveen said,  “Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) scheme is for our famers and the KALIA scholarship for their children. The children of our farmers will get higher education and go on to become doctors, engineers, veterinary surgeons and agriculture scientist.”

“It is matter of pride that the state government will bear the expenses of higher education of farmers’ children,” he said, adding, “Development of children is the development of farmers and Odisha.”

The scholarship will ensure that not a single eligible child of KALIA beneficiaries, aspiring for technical and professional education, will be deprived from realizing their dream, an official said.

The state government will bear all expenditure including course fees, hostel fees and mess fees etc.,  so that the children from the farming families would be able to successfully support their families after receiving proper technical and professional education, he said.

The students can apply online on the KALIA scholarship portal and can apply from Tuesday.

Eligible children of KALIA scheme beneficiaries can avail assistance to study in more than 13 professional courses including MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, B Pharma, BSC Nursing, BVS and AH, BE, B Arch and B Plan, BSC Agriculture, BSC Horticulture, BSC Forestry, BSC Fisheries, BSC Community Science through more than 30 government institutions.

Financial assistance will be provided to the eligible children of KALIA scheme beneficiaries  to study more than 11 technical education and diploma courses in all ITIs, Polytechnics, Agro Polytechnics, D Pharma, DMLT, BMRT, PBSC, GNM, ANM, Psychiatry Nursing, Ophthalmic Assistant/Surgical OPTH Assistant across the state in more than 150 institutions.

The KALIA scholarship money would be directly sent to the bank accounts of the eligible students through DBT.

The funds provided under KALIA scholarship will cover tuition fees, annual college fees, one-time college fees and hostel establishment charges (as per institutions concerned) and messing fees as per the provisions of SC/ST Welfare Department.
