CM launches ‘cooperative at your doorstep’ campaign

Bhubaneswar: With the aim to provide credit linkage to sharecroppers and landless farmers, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the state government’s ‘cooperative at your doorstep’ campaign at the Secretariat here, Tuesday.
Naveen launched the campaign through video conferencing in presence of Cooperation Minister Surya Narayan Patro, Chief Secretary AP Padhi and other senior state government officials.
Under the new scheme, the farmers will be provided with about 65 per cent of the agricultural loan at 1 per cent interest through various cooperative societies, Naveen announced at the function.
The state government has relaxed various norms to provide term loan to the framers. The government aims to provide `1,000 crore as term loans to farmers this year, he said.
The Odisha State Cooperative Bank (OSCB) and National Bank for Agricultural Development (NABARD) signed an Mou on the occasion to facilitate formation and credit linkage of Joint Liability Group (JLG) in across the state.
The ‘cooperatives at your doorstep’ campaign will continue till July. During the campaign, crop loans will be given to landless cultivators, sharecroppers and small as well as marginal farmers by forming Joint Liability Groups (JLGs).
Each primary agricultural cooperative society (PACS) will be required to organise at least 10 JLGs and provide them the required financial assistance in the form of loans. Crop loans up to `50,000 will be given at 1 per cent interest to each JLG, sources said.
The Chief Minister also released the government’s ‘Vision document 2021’ to strengthen the short-term cooperative credit structure across Odisha. On the occasion, the CM awarded `1 lakh each to three best performing PACs in the state.
