CM Naveen Patnaik CM to inaugurate KISS Residential School in Kalahandi Friday

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the Kalahandi branch of the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) residential school for tribal students, June 17.

MP of Kandhamal, Dr Achyuta Samanta, a well-known educationist and social entrepreneur who founded the first tribal residential school in the Odisha capital will also attend the inauguration ceremony along with Kalahandi MP Basanta Kumar Panda and Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar. Samanta is also the founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Institute (KIIT), a premier institute in Odisha.

The sprawling eco-friendly and Wi-Fi green campus has come up at Badli under Bhawanipatna Block in the Kalahandi District. KIIT has built the campus in the 1,20,000 square feet area with an investment of Rs 50 crore. The residential school has a mechanised kitchen and a 25-bed hospital among other facilities.

The school will have a capacity of 1,200 students from Classes I to XII. Like the KISS institute here, the school will be totally free for the poor and underprivileged tribal children of Kalahandi district. Along with free meals, the children will get quality education. They will also participate in many extra-curricular activities.

It is to be noted that KISS in Bhubaneswar is the largest residential school for tribal students in Odisha and the only tribal university in the world founded in 1992.
