CM okays Rs 8.65 cr to 35 Bhadrak panchayats amid protests

Basudevpur: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned Rs 8.65 crore for 175 projects in 35 panchayats in Basudevpur block of Bhadrak Friday amid protests from some people’s representatives from 13 panchayats at the block office.

The approved projects were announced during a programme at the Basudevpur College playground in the presence of MP Arjun Charan Sethi, Dhamnagar MLA Muktikant Mandal, Collector Gyana Ranjan Rout, Zilla Parishad chairperson Dwijabar Rout and others. Over 10,000 people from 35 panchayats attended the meeting.

On the other hand, people’s representatives and their supporters, wearing black clothes from 13 panchayats under the block staged a sit-in outside the block office Friday. They alleged that some projects were selected with political motives without taking them into confidence.

A block level programme of Ama Gaon Bikash was held at AB College here Friday. Sarpanchs, samiti members and other leaders of Bideipur, Kumarpur, Nuagan, Krushnapur, Sanaskrushnapur and Laxmidaspur panchayats warned of a road blockade if their proposals were not approved.
