CM pats lady for foiling loot bid

Bhubaneswar: A strong woman who offered resistance to two bike-borne snatchers received accolades from all quarters including Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday.
The lady, identified as Abhhijita Mohapatra of GGP Colony under Mancheswar Police station limits here, fought the desperadoes valiantly leading to the arrest of one criminal.
Abhijita presents an excellent example of bravery for other womenfolk who are considered soft targets by the outlaws.
According to sources, the lady was going to the market after dropping her daughter at her friend’s place when the two bike-borne miscreants accosted her. They came near her on the pretext of enquiring about some local address.
Speaking to the media, Abhijita said, “The way the two spoke, I guessed their evil intentions and went a few steps back to avoid a confrontation. However, the duo pushed me down and tried to snatch my gold necklace after getting off their bike when I cried for help and did not let go off my chain. Meanwhile, two local youths rushed to the spot and captured the pillion rider while the other fled the place.”
The miscreants reportedly assaulted the lady during the jostling. She also sustained bruises on her neck.
Chief Minister Patnaik praised Abhijita for her courage in a tweet: “Appreciate the courage of Abhijita Mohapatra in foiling the chain snatching attempt by two bike-borne attackers in Bhubaneswar and ensuring the arrest of one criminal. Her courageous deed is indeed praiseworthy.”
Commissioner of Police Satyajit Mohanty who termed Mohapatra as a ‘Dabang’, felicitated her at a special programme and gave away a cash reward of `5,000 at the police headquarters Saturday afternoon.
Meanhwile, Mancheswar police have started a manhunt to nab the absconding miscreant. Police are also trying to elicit more details from the accused, identified as Somanath Das of Konark (Puri).
