The day, which marks India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War, also remembers those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
People from all walks of the life pay their tributes to the martyred heroes of the country.
This day in 1999, after fighting for more than 60 days, India took command of the high outposts that were occupied by the Pakistani intruders.
The three-day long celebrations began Tuesday at the Drass War Memorial in Kargil town in Jammu and Kashmir by paying tributes to the heroes and laying wreath at the memorial.
However, the main function of the celebration will be held Thursday with the wreath-laying ceremony being a part of it.
