CM pays tribute to Subhas Chandra Bose, Veer Surendra Sai

Cuttack: Birth anniversaries of freedom fighters Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai were celebrated Wednesday across Odisha.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid his tributes to the two freedom fighters. Taking to twitter, the CM described Bose as the son of the soil. “Netaji’s philosophy will always inspire countrymen,” the CM said through his tweet.  Similarly, Patnaik said Veer Surendra Sai will always be remembered for his rebellion against the British Government. Several political leaders across party lines remembered the contribution made by Bose on his 122nd birth anniversary.

Bose, had earlier been a member of the Indian National Congress before forming the Indian National Army or INA (also known as the Azad Hind Fauj), to fight the British.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year had renamed three islands of Andaman and Nicobar to keeping in mind the contribution Bose made during India’s freedom movement. Ross Island, Neil Island and Havelock Island were renamed as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep, Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep respectively.

A number of national political leaders also took to social media platforms to commemorate Bose’s birthday.

President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted, “Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose remains one of our most beloved national heroes.” Telugu Desam party chief N Chandrababu Naidu also tweeted, saying Bose was a ‘fearless nationalist and hero of the masses’.

BJD Rajya Sabha MP Soumya Ranjan Patnaik paid floral tributes to  Bose at the Netaji Birthplace Museum in Odia Bazaar area here and termed January 23 as an auspicious occasion as two great freedom fighters of the nation were born on the day.
