Kendrapara: The political scene in the district is heating up with all political parties beginning to woo voters. Senior leaders visit the district and resort to mudslinging at their opponents.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to visit the district Friday to attend a mega farmers’ meeting at Baro. Preparations are in full swing for the CM’s visit. Around one lakh farmers from Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts are scheduled to attend the meeting.
Kendrapara MLA Kishore Tarai, Mahakalapada MLA Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and BJD observer Pramila Mallick have been monitoring the situation to make the CM’s visit a success.
A review meeting was held Thursday under the chairmanship of Balwant Singh, IAS, Director of Technical Education and Training-cum- Agricultural Marketing. Collector Dasarathi Satapathy, SP Niti Sekhar and other senior officials attended the meeting.
The officials decided to divide the meeting place into 12 zones. BDOs and Tehsildars will be appointed as nodal officers and they will be in charge of each zone. Around 50 officials will assist each nodal officer.
Importance has been given to provide water, milk packets, food, cap and T-shirts to farmers and public. Ambulances with medicos and paramedics and water tankers will be deployed at the meeting place, Collector Satapathy said.
Around 40 platoons of police will be deployed to prevent law and order problems and clear jams on Cuttack-Chandabali road, the SP said.
KALIA has become a milestone in Odisha’s development and it would definitely improve the lot of farmers. The KALIA Yojana has become an example for the nation and several CMs have praised Naveen for introducing it, MLA Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said.
The CM will inaugurate a mega lift irrigation project at a cost of Rs 24.96 crore at Deulatara. Other projects that will be inaugurated are a mega lift irrigation project at Aul block’s Dimiripal at Rs 15.20 crore, 33/11 KV primary sub-station under ODSSP scheme at Jariabada at Rs 8 crore and another at DK Bhol in Harianka GP of Derabish block at Rs 6 crore.
The CM will also lay foundation stones for 10 projects involving an estimated outlay of Rs 73.97 crore.
The CM will also launch the second phase of the KALIA Yojana in the district and also announce the KALIA Yojana for the landless, said Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak.
The BJP leaders threatened to hold protests when the CM visits the district. The District Congress Committee said the Congress has decided to protest the CM’s visit to Kendrapara.
The DCC alleged that the BJD government has failed to execute development projects in the district. They said the government failed to set up agro-based industries or a cold storage in the district. During last elections, the CM had promised to set up an industrial corridor by the side of NH-5(A), construct Barunei port and build a power plant at Mahakalapada. But nothing has been done, said DCC President Chinmaya Beura.
