CMC plans to increase COVID-19 tests across Cuttack

Cuttack: A special strategy is being formulated for increased coronavirus testing in Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) limits in a bid to speed up detection of COVID-19 patients in the city, CMC commissioner Ananya Das has said.

A high-level meeting was held in this regard Saturday night which was attended by COVID-19 observer Saurabh Garg, CMC commissioner Das and other top officials of CMC.

In the meeting, it was decided that the capacity of COVID-19 testing in CMC now stands at 700 per day. However, it will be increased to contain the spread of the virus.

Ananya Das informed that a special strategy is in place for monitoring asymptotic patients who are in home isolation and their shifting to COVID Care Centers. The CMC is trying to increase the capacity of COVID-19 hospitals, Das added.

Das said that in the containment zones like Khatbin Sahi and Rausapatna area door-to-soor health survilance is continuing. Around 14 rounds of surveillance were carries out in Khatbin Sahi while tesing of 56 per cent people has been conducted in Rauspatna area.

“We have requested SCB officials to create a pool of doctors including gynaecologists and nephrologists to provide required treatment to COVID-19 positive patients,” said Das.

Das said that CMC has conducted massive testing of asymptomatic persons during the 16-day lockdown.

Garg addressed several measures including how to increase testing capacity in the city and said there is a requirement of more doctors and lab technicians in order to increase the coronavirus testing in the city area.

“Already the state government has deployed 20 postgraduate doctors for Cuttack district and soon testing capacity will be enhanced,” Garg said.

Addressing the media, Garg further added that CMC Commissioner and DCP Cuttack will talk to traders’ associations to ensure strict implementation of COVID-19 guidelines at business establishments when they reopen Monday.

Cuttack collector, Bhabani Shankar Chayani informed that as certain activities will be allowed in Unlock 3. “There will be restrictions and people who will come to the district will have to inform local authorities. Similarly, emphasis is being laid on treatment at COVID Care Centres, COVID hospitals by SCB doctors,” Chayani added.
