Bhubaneswar, August 23: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s security was breached Sunday for the second time this year.
A 30-year-old man from Padanpur village under Ghasipura police limits in Keonjhar district Sunday managed to break in the ‘tight security cordon’ around CM and handed over a memorandum to him at Soochana Bhawan here.
Sambhunath Moharana, a labourer, forcibly breached the security cordon of CM to hand over a memorandum to him while he was coming out of the Soochana Bhawan towards his vehicle after attending a party meeting Sunday afternoon.
After seeing the person rushing towards the CM, ACP Aseem Panda and other senior police officials tried to obstruct him, but in vain.
The CM then reportedly directed an official to receive the single sheet memorandum from Moharana. Patnaik then immediately left the spot. After the incident the Capital police station officials detained Moharana.
Moharana, however, defended himself saying his family had been neglected by the Keonjhar district administration for years to get a house under Biju Pucca Ghara and Mo Kudia Yojana implemented earlier by the state government for the under-privileged people living in the rural areas.
“We had registered a complaint at the Chief Minister’s Grievances Cell here on this. The officials then sent a letter July 1 directing the Ghasipura Block Development Officer (BDO) to consider our case. But July 10 when we met the BDO to hand over the receipt, he refused to receive our complaint,” he alleged. Meanwhile, twin city police commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma said it was not a security breach and that the CM had asked the cops to allow the man to hand over the memorandum he was holding.
“The security officials had noticed him and they also stopped him. But on seeing the man, the CM asked the officials to allow him to hand over the memorandum. I have also asked for a report on the matter from senior officials who were present over there,” he added.
Orissa DGP Sanjiv Marik told Orissa POST that he has asked for a report from the commissionerate police on the matter. “After going through the report, I will see what needs to be done,” he said.
In February, Youth Congress activists had showed black flags and hurled eggs at Patnaik’s car when he was on his way to Utkal University to attend the annual function of its students’ union.
