Berhampur: The coronavirus pandemic is acquiring alarming proportions in Silk City as the district administration sealed a coaching institute for violating COVID-19 guidelines and 12 major thoroughfares in the city as part of crowd control measures, a report said.
The matter came to fore after officials of Berhampur Municipal Corporation started sealing the entry points of major roads in the city from late Wednesday night. The sealing of the roads is part of the decision of BeMC to check the spread of coronavirus.
As part of the measures, the road connecting Kamapalli to Goilundi, New bus-stand Kali Mandir road and Ramnagar by-pass road were sealed by Thursday evening. The sealing of the rest of the roads like Lohia Brothers, Annapurna Market, One-Way traffic road, Giri Market Square, Sana Bazaar Square, Khaspa Sahi Square, Kali Mandir road, Haridakhandi Siba Mandir Square, Taluk Hospital Square and Sriram Nagar Square will be completed by Thursday night.
Meanwhile, the district administration also sealed a coaching institute here for allegedly violating Covid-19 guidelines.
The Special Relief Commissioner had directed for the closure of all schools, colleges, and other educational, training, coaching institutions in the state June 1 till July 31 as part of the measures to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
Report said that a coaching institute identified as ‘Praxis The English Lab’ in Gajapati Nagar area with its shutters locked from outside was found imparting coaching to students inside in violation of the aforesaid guidelines.
Acting on complaints, the sub-Collector Shinde Dattatraya Bhausaheb directed the district officials to raid the premises of the coaching centre. Accordingly, officials raided the premises of the coaching institute around 11.00 AM.
During raid 20 students were found taking lessons inside the premises. The officials allowed the students to go back to their places while the coaching centre was sealed. The proprietor of the institute has been served a show-cause notice.
