Bhubaneswar: Coir Board of India has bagged the first prize in the Swachhta Pakhwada Award, set up by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, for outstanding performance during the Swachhta Pakhwada of the Ministry of MSME from June 16-30, 2018. The Bhubaneswar regional office of the board was awarded the third prize, while Kolavoor received the second prize.
Coir Board of India, a unit of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises contributed significantly to the Swachh Bharat Ahhiyan activities. The board has been implementing various Swachhta activities as per the action plan approved by the ministry.
For the current fiscal, the board has set apart an outlay of Rs. 1 crore for implementation of various cleanliness activities under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. During this period the board plans to undertake a series of activities, including beach cleaning and coir exhibition at the beach at Puri, adoption of Kempusagara village in Karnataka for cleanliness and maintenance of the existing sanitation infrastructure, maintenance of five public toilets at Kochi in Kerala among others.
