Bhubaneswar: As cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail over some districts in Odisha for another day, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has put all the Collectors on alert.
In its bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said cold wave condition is very likely prevail in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Angul and Dhenkanal from 8:30am of January 8 to next day morning.
The Met department has issued yellow warning for these districts. There is an increased likelihood of cold related illnesses among people, which may get aggravated due to prolonged exposure to cold.
Livestock may also be affected due to prolonged exposure to cold. People, in the districts under yellow warning and also in other areas where intense cold is felt, have been advised to stay indoors during night and early morning and avoid exposure to cold.
Movement during night especially on two-wheelers or in open cars must be avoided. Necessary safety measures should be taken while using electrical and gas heating devices or using fire for the said purpose, said the SRC office in its advisory.
All the Collectors have been asked to ensure that school buildings, community buildings and other available houses are opened for use as shelter during night by the homeless and needy.
