Collectors told to inspect spl institutions regularly

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of sexual harassment of girls at a shelter home in Dhenkanal, the government has asked the district Collectors to ensure timely inspections of all types of special institutions.

The Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department Friday asked all the Collectors to ensure fortnightly inspection of all the institutions taking care of people with special needs.

The special institutions for which fortnightly inspections have been ordered are special schools, therapeutic centres, rehabilitation service centres, drug de-addiction centres, old age homes and others.

“You are requested to remain vigilant regarding the management of these institutions and be pro-active to avoid untoward incidents. You should instruct your ADM, Sub Collectors, BDOs, DSSOs and other officials to visit these institutions according to a fixed schedule so that every institution is visited at least twice a month,” the department asked the Collectors.

The Department has also given them a checklist to assess their service standards. These include monitoring the safety and sanitation condition of toilets, water supply, power supply and the condition of the building.
