Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has arrested 59 drug peddlers in connection with 31 cases registered under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 during the last six months.
The City police also seized brown sugar weighing 365 gram and 75 milligram, Rs1,02,045 in cash, 27 mobile phones and 14 two-wheelers from the possession of the accused between January 1 and June 16, 2023.
Similarly, as many as 86 accused were arrested for transporting contraband ganja during the above period. The cops have registered 40 NDPS cases in this regard and seized 13.19 quintal of contraband, Rs7, 84,870 in cash, gold ornaments weighing 103.74 gram, 39 mobile phones, and 25 two-wheelers and four-wheelers during the last six months.
Meanwhile, the cops have booked 140 habitual property offenders involved in several criminal activities in the City under section 110 under the CrPC Act during the above period. The Bharatpur, Jatni and Nayapalli, police have slapped section 110 of CrPC against 16, 14 and 12 dreaded criminals respectively between January 1 and June 16, 2023.
On the other hand, 114 persons out of 580 accused involved in as many as 162 cases related to fights between different groups or families in the City have been made to sign surety bonds under section 107 of the CrPC (when any person is likely to commit a breach of the peace or disturb the public tranquility) during the last six months. Action has been taken against 22 persons in cases under Lingaraj Police Station and 17 each cases were registered in Dhauli and Balianta Police Station during the above period.
The cops have closed 30 cases following the good behaviour of accused persons during the bond period while 132 cases are still pending.
