Commissionerate Police bans protests, demonstrations and rallies during Odisha Assembly session

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police clarified Sunday afternoon that it will not accord permission for protests, demonstrations or rallies on Gandhi Marg during the Monsoon Session of Odisha Legislative Assembly.

A press note issued for the purpose read, “No organisation has sought such permission so far. If they do receive any application in future, it may be considered based on the need and situation.”

The press note added that due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the state government has put a blanket ban on any type of congregation such as protest, demonstration or rally.

The Monsoon Session of 16th Odisha Assembly is set to begin from September 29.

Over 900 people including MLAs, media persons and officials have been tested for COVID-19, ahead of the session.

Notably, two MLAs who had given their samples Saturday have tested positive for COVID-19. The two senior leaders are Baramba MLA Debi Prasad Mishra and Binjharpur MLA Pramila Mallik.
