Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police with the help of childline officials rescued an abandoned newly-born child in Bhubaneswar, a source said Thursday.
Following the rescue, the baby was admitted to Capital Hospital for treatment.
According to the source, the baby was initially dumped by a woman near Acharya Vihar alongside the National Highway in Bhubaneswar.
After some time, another woman came in an auto-rickshaw and took the baby with her.
Meanwhile, childline officials swung into action after getting information about the abandoned baby.
However, by the time the officials reached there, the woman had fled the spot along with the baby, the source added.
Subsequently, the officials informed Sahid Nagar police about the development.
Police tracked the auto-rickshaw number in which the woman tried to escape with the baby. Eventually, the cops rescued the newborn from Akhandalamani slum in Bhubaneswar. Later, police handed over the baby to the childline officials.
Police have registered a case in this regard and a probe has been launched.
