Commissionerate police system in 3 cities soon

Bhubaneswar: The state government is mulling to introduce the Commissionerate police system in three prominent cities of the state, DGP RP Sharma said Wednesday while addressing the 10th raising day celebrations of the twin city Commissionerate police. Sharma was the chief guest of the function held at OSAP 7th Battalion parade ground.
Sharma said the government would take the final call on the Commissionerate police system in Sambalpur, Rourkela and Berhampur.
Hailing the role of Commissionerate police in crime prevention and control, Sharma said, “Proactive measures in prevention and detection of offences have been the hallmark of Commissionerate police.”
He also asked the police personnel to hone their technological knowhow to deal with computer savvy criminals popping up every day. He said that crime against women, elderly persons and ensuring justice to the marginal people of the society are major challenges before the police in the city. Curbing offences related to properties while maintaining the law and order in the city is the toughest job for the Commissionerate police.
He hailed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the pioneering step of establishing Commissionerate police system in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. He also hailed Commissioner YB Khurania’s leadership and lauded the role of police during various international events.
Earlier, speaking to media, Khurania said the establishment of a cyber crime police station in the city is one of his top priorities. He said that Commissionerate police will soon have a unit to deal with cyber crimes exclusively. He emphasised the importance of surveillance and keeping track of the trends on various social media platforms.
