MHRD forms panel for deciding IIM location

Bhubaneswar, Dec 7: The Union ministry of human resource development (MHRD) has constituted a four-member committee to select a suitable site for establishment of the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the state.

While MHRD additional secretary (technical education) Amarjeet Sinha has been appointed as chairman of the committee, employment, technical education and training (ETET) secretary CS Kumar, director of Kolkata IIM Saibal Chattopadhyay and chief engineer of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) UC Mishra are members of the panel, a senior ETET official said.

After getting a schedule from the additional secretary and IIM Kolkata, the date for the panel’s visit will be fixed and accordingly, the committee will make visit all sites recommended by the state government for setting up a permanent and temporary campus, the official informed.

Following three month-long deliberations, the state government had recommended two sites near Bhubaneswar for the permanent campus and one location for temporary campus of the premier management institute.

The state had identified 100 acres of land near Gothapatana industrial area near IIIT, IMI (international management institute) campuses and 117 acres of land adjoining IIT campus Argul. While the first location is around 15 km from the Biju Patnaik International Airport, the second location is around 30 km from the airport. Besides, the government had also recommended IIIT campus as a location for setting up the IIM’s temporary campus.
