Commuters suffer as railway level crossing lies defunct for years in Koraput

Nandapur: A railway level crossing which has been lying defunct at Patrapandi village under Nandapur block in Koraput district has disrupted communication in the area.

The level crossing gate which was closed by the Railway authorities has adversely affected 50 villages and two blocks.

The PMGSY road which connects Nandapur and Lamtaput blocks crosses the railway track and leads to Lamtaput, reports said.

Commuters coming from both sides have to park their vehicles and have to cross the railway track by foot to reach the other side. In case of motorcycle riders, they have to lift their vehicles to cross.

Last year, when the leading Odia daily ‘Dharitri’ published a news in this connection, a case was filed at the Orissa High Court following which the court ordered the Koraput District Judge to conduct a probe.

The judge visited the spot, took stock of the situation and said that a report will be submitted to the High Court soon.

However, no action has been taken yet to redress the problem.

The local residents are planning a protest to solve the issue, reports said.
