Bhubaneswar: 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman Kartik Pandian directed officials of Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) here Sunday to complete the Kalamandal project within four months. Pandian issued the directive while reviewing the progress of work at Kalamandal, which after inauguration will be the state government’s largest convention centre, and Akhayara Bhoomi, an area being developed for the 1st World Odia Language Conference.
The 5T Chairman Sunday paid a visit to the 2,000 sitting capacity convention centre, being constructed by IDCO for the Odia Language Literature and Culture department, near Sainik School in the City. He also suggested the IDCO managing director to collaborate with the Culture department and use aesthetics of Odia culture as inspiration while designing the interiors of Kalamandal. Pandian also visited the Akhayara Bhoomi project site where the construction is being handled by the Works department. “Akhayara Bhoomi will commemorate the 1st World Odia Language Conference to be held in City from February 3 to 5. A commemorative arch reflecting Kalingan style of architecture will adorn the place, making it an attraction for the youth, reminding them of the rich heritage of classical Odia language,” said a government official.
As per source, it has been decided to leave space for future expansion at the Kalamandal building and to keep the basement reserved for vehicle parking for convenience of visitors to the convention centre. The 5T Chairman also suggested the IDCO officials to plant trees in the space so that the entire campus looks green and feels eco-friendly.
