Cong gives memo to Guv, seeks CBI probe

Bhubaneswar, August 17: Accusing the state government of failing to maintain law and order in the state, opposition Congress Monday gheraoed Raj Bhawan demanding a CBI probe into alleged police excesses in Kendrapara recently.
The protesters also demanded initiation of criminal proceedings against suspended IPS officer Satish Gajbhiye for his alleged role in the police violence against people seeking the arrest of self-styled godman Santosh Raula also known as Sarathi Baba.
A delegation of Congress leaders headed by PCC chief Prasad Harichandan and Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra met Governor SC Jamir and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
 As part of its demonstrations, a rally was carried out from Congress Bhawan at 11 am towards Raj Bhawan via Rajmahal and AG Square.
Stating that the state government is trying to shield the culprits involved in the entire Sarathi episode and Kendrapara violence, Congress Chief Whip Taraprasad Bahinipati said, “The protest will be widened further if the government fails to take action in this regard.”
He said the issue should be handed over to CBI for a fair probe.
BJD leaders said Congress should detest from politicizing all issues. “The state government has already directed a Crime branch probe into the matter, while Gajbhiye has been suspended and further inquiry against him is on,” said BJD leader and spokesperson Amar Satpathy.
