Cong plans to target BJP over economic slowdown

New Delhi: The Congress has decided to target Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled Union government for its failures in tackling economic slowdown and not fulfilling the promises.

The grand old party, Thursday, held a meeting of general secretaries and Pradesh Congress chiefs chaired by Sonia Gandhi. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi did not attend the meeting.

Following the meeting, Odisha Congress in-charge Jitendra Singh said that the party has decided to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and along with that the party workers will go to people in every corner and tell them about the failures of BJP-ruled Union government.

“The BJP had promised to double the income of farmers, generate employment opportunities and also promised a $5 trillion economy. But the condition is now worse. The country is going through economic slowdown. People are losing jobs. We will take these issues to the people and target the Union government,” said Jitendra Singh.

While speaking about the allegations made by National Students Union of India president Itish Pradhan on Pradesh Congress chief Niranjan Patnaik, Singh said NSUI doesn’t have anything to do with the party.

“We have not asked any suggestion from them. We will go through the matter and initiate disciplinary action against NSUI president for labeling allegation against state president in presser,” he said.
