Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress will be declaring its district, zonal, PCC and booth committees by July 15. Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik said, though it was a hard task, the job will be done.
“We completed 45 meetings in 48 days and expect a lot more from our district committee workers and leaders. Odisha Congress will stick to its promise of announcing the Assembly and Lok Sabha candidates in August,” he added.
Earlier, in a bid to reorient leaders towards grassroots level politics, Niranjan Patnaik had made it clear that those who would work with the people in rural areas would be given tickets to contest the next Assembly elections. He also asked the district committees to form a WhatsApp group and raise local issues instead of national and international issues.
Leaders with winning possibilities will get tickets, said Patnaik, adding, instead of speaking anything against any party in the media, leaders have been asked to raise their grievances at party forum.
Sources said action plans have been prepared for district and working presidents. Working presidents of the districts will be given responsibilities of Assembly constituencies in their respective areas.
Besides, district presidents were asked to constitute district Congress committees (DCCs) within a time frame without delay. Besides, district presidents were asked to keep open Congress offices at the district headquarters for six to eight hours daily.
The DCCs will submit reports about the organisational activity of the party twice a month. “From the report, it will be known in three-four months as to who is working at the grassroots and accordingly the party will select the candidate for the forthcoming elections,” Patnaik said.
Out of the 33 organisational districts, working presidents have not been appointed for five districts while the remaining 28 districts have got 54 working presidents.
