Sonepur: The Congress Monday observed a dawn-to-dusk bandh in Binka demanding the filling up of vacant posts of doctors at the local Community Health Centre (CHC) and other hospitals in Subarnapur district Saturday.
While educational institutions, offices, commercial establishments, markets and shops remained closed, vehicles stayed off the road at several places to avoid any untoward incident.
The party workers held demonstrations and staged road blockade at major junctions in the town by burning tyres. The bandh called by Congress is also supported by the Bar association and traders’ unions.
“Posts of doctors are lying vacant at several hospitals in Binka. Despite repeated requests by locals, the administration has failed to appoint adequate number of doctors”, one of the agitators said.
