Congress jumbo team invites criticism

Bhubaneswar, August 6 : In a new twist to the dissension among Congress leaders in the state, former Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik criticized the new PCC team announced by PCC chief Prasad Harichandan recently as ‘jumbo’. He also termed the Congress’s coordinating team as an ‘old age home’.

“Too many cooks spoil the broth”, Patnaik told a local television adding, “This is a large committee formed for the first time in the state. Several new faces have figured in the team and no effort has been made to verify the antecedents of the new members.” “However, I wish the new team all success.”

However, party chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati criticised Patnaik’s remarks saying the new leader should be given a chance to constitute his own team.
“I was not given a chance to become a member of PCC team when Patnaik was the PCC chief,” he averred.
OPCC President Prasad Harichandan had announced his new team August 1 comprising 10 vice-presidents, one treasurer, 25 general secretaries, five political secretaries and 55 secretaries. The new PCC team has 80 per cent new faces with 11 tribal members, 14 Dalits and 12 from minorities.
