Congress to restructure state unit

Bhubaneswar: As per the suggestion of All-India Congress Committee (AICC), Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Niranjan Patnaik has decided to completely restructure the the state unit.

The party will start the process of formation of the new committee in this month. While there will be committees at the block-level, there will be none at the zone-level, said Niranjan after holding a meeting with all senior leaders of the party.

“Right from the grassroots to higher-ups, every single part of the organisation would be restructured. The AICC has directed to form a committee comprising those members who worked for the party sincerely during the recent general elections,” he said.

Welcoming the move of AICC, senior Congress leader and MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati said whole system should be changed and maximum power should be given to State party chief.

Appointment of large number of secretaries, general secretaries and vice-presidents had actually led to the downfall of the party, he opinioned.

The AICC had last month dissolved the PCC office bearers and all other committees constituted for recently held Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Odisha. However, the president and working presidents of PCC remained unchanged.
