Conman held for duping youth of Rs 2 lakh

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police arrested a conman Thursday for duping a youth of around Rs 2 lakh by posing as a Vigilance officer of the Indian Railways. The conman extracted several lakhs from the man promising him a job in East Coast Railway.

The accused identified as Asish Singh is a resident of HEC Colony in Ranchi in Jharkhand. Asish was staying in a rented flat in Khandagiri Police limits.

Asish claimed that he was a Vigilance officer in the Railways and had a close relationship with senior officials of East Coast Railway.

The victim, Suvendu Mallik, is a resident of Unit-8 area in Nayapalli Police Station limits here.

Mallik came into contact with the conman after hearing about him from one of his friends. He gave him Rs 2 lakh for a job in the Railways. Later, he came to know about others who were cheated by Asish. Mallik lodged a complaint with the Nayapalli Police August 13.

Asish who was arrested by Nayapalli Police Thursday was sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
