Bhubaneswar: Police Tuesday arrested the paramour of a woman, who was found dead with her throat slit at the former’s rented residence in Ashok Nagar Basti under Capital Police station limits late Sunday evening, on the charge of murdering her.
Sukhdev Kevat, 40, a contractor, was arrested from Sambalpur while he was trying to escape to Bihar, police said. He hails from Beldhan Sanga village in Kendukhed police station limits of Dhanao district in Madhya Pradesh.
According to sources, the woman, Sita Dei of Banapur in Khurda, worked under Sukhdev as a daily wager. Her husband Ravi Behera lives in Chilika. Locals said, she came to Sukhdev’s house often and stayed for long hours.
According to police sources, Sita had taken money in advance from Sukhdev promising to work for him. However, she started avoiding him after some days that irked the accused.
The accused also allegedly set her house in her village on fire. Sukhdev had been threatening the family members of the deceased over phone.
Police registered a case ( 400/18) under section 302 of the IPC.
